RBWM Cabinet Member for Sports & Leisure, Cllr Ross McWilliams toured the fantastic new facilities at Braywick Leisure Centre - a major new community infrastructure delivered by RBWM, which that will provide excellent sports & leisure opportunities for years to come!
It was particularly great to see a swimming event being held for former SportsAble members & other disabled residents. Cllr McWilliams spoke to the MD of Leisure Focus - the new operators - who explained Leisure Focus was looking at how to ensure the former SportsAble members and other disabled residents can continue to have access to sports & leisure opportunities.
For example, the new pool has a lift that enables residents with mobility challenges to enter the pool safely. These types of facilities mean that Lesiure Focus and the volunteers who ran SportsAble can continue to provide support to residents in a sustainable way
This is a really positive approach and is exactly why these facilities are so important. Leisure Focus is a new Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) that RBWM set up to replace former operators, Parkwood. Its status as charity rather than a for-profit organisation will hopefully mean their community outreach work continues
Overall a great visit to a great facility, which is becoming a major community hub. RBWM certainly deserves a lot of credit for delivering the site & moving to create a CIO
